Bio

Welmoet Glover Roland HolstI was born of Dutch parents and am a first generation American. My family moved to Southern California near Del Mar, where I attended school before eventually transferring to the Santa Barbara Art Institute which was located on the hills of the Riviera in Santa Barbara, CA.

After leaving school, I moved to Hawaii where I lived for 17 years. I was married there and had 2 daughters and we began Aloha Voyages, which operated a 78 foot schooner that did research and conducted charters through-out the Pacific Ocean. During this time I primarily worked as the GM of a company with art galleries and frame shops on Oahu. The business of Aloha Voyages eventually relocated to the island of Maui, where I began Garden Gate Bed & Breakfast.

I moved to Santa Barbara in 1999 where my daughters and I have since lived. Currently I have a dual business running Ms. Glover’s Puppy Play Day Care which allows me the freedom to paint in my studio while caring for dogs. This work also led me to begin doing Puppy-dog Portraits!

I have worked in chalk, acrylics and oils. Sometimes I work plein-air, other times I paint from photographs I’ve taken during my travels. Many of my paintings have a story behind them.. I consider the balance of positive & negative space within a painting as well as the color, composition and light. These I weigh out before beginning a new piece and when the elements come together in a strong and complimentary way, I find it almost effortless to immerse myself in the painting process.
